Embracing the Unknown
How Embracing the Unknown Can Transform Your Life
Adventure Isn’t Just for Daredevils!
When we think of the word “adventure,” it’s easy to picture skydiving, scaling Everest, or jetting off to some exotic locale. It’s big. It’s bold. It’s often terrifying (and, let’s be honest, a bit out of reach).
But what if I told you that adventure doesn’t belong exclusively to thrill-seekers or world travelers? What if adventure could be found in the small, quiet moments of your everyday life?
Adventure is less about what you’re doing and more about how you’re approaching it. It’s about saying yes when you’d normally say no. It’s about stepping into the unknown, even if your palms are sweaty and your heart’s racing. And let me tell you—those tiny steps toward something new can change everything.
If you’re anything like me, the idea of stepping out of your comfort zone can feel… uncomfortable. (There’s a reason it’s called a “comfort” zone, right?)
Our brains are hardwired to seek safety and predictability. The unknown? It’s the opposite of that. It’s messy and uncertain, and, honestly, a little scary. But here’s the paradox: That same uncertainty is where growth lives.
When we cling too tightly to the familiar, we rob ourselves of the chance to grow, discover, and connect. Sure, you can live your life on autopilot, but where’s the fun in that?
Every time you say yes to an adventure—big or small—you’re rewriting your story. You’re teaching yourself that you’re capable, resilient, and open to possibility.
Most of you wouldn't even recognize Laura from 15 years ago. I mean, not just because I was younger...but because she, I was scared of everything.
I didn't take risks. I didn't try new things. I stayed where things were safe.
Ask both of my kids and my husband how adventurous I was.
These days, I barely think about it when I do something that would have been scary to me back then. Last November, I submitted my letter of intent for our City Zoning and Planning Commission because it sounded 'interesting'. Who is that girl? Old Laura would have been terrified.
We are never going to be a better people with more skills if we don't put our selves out there and TRY NEW THINGS. Who cares if we suck at them.
That’s the thing about adventure. It’s not about the end result. It’s about what you learn along the way.
Ready to dip your toes into the adventurous waters? You don’t need a passport or a daredevil spirit—just a willingness to try something new.
- Explore Somewhere New: Visit a nearby park, trail, or café you’ve never been to before.
- Try a New Hobby: Always wanted to paint, bake, or learn a new instrument? Now’s the time.
- Be Spontaneous: Say yes to an invitation you’d usually decline, or plan a surprise outing for yourself or a friend.
- Challenge Your Routine: Take a different route to work, switch up your morning routine, or try journaling in a new setting.
- Step Into Someone Else’s World: Volunteer for a cause, attend a community event, or strike up a conversation with a stranger.
Adventure doesn’t have to be grand to be transformative. The magic lies in the act of saying yes—to yourself, to possibility, and to the unknown.
So, what will you say yes to today?
xoxo,
Laura
